Luke is a senior executive leader with over 35 years of experience in engineering, technology & operational executive roles across the aerospace, defense, and energy sectors. His expertise has significantly influenced aircraft propulsion technologies and national power infrastructure projects.
In his recent role as Director of Delivery Functions at BAE Systems' Air Sector, Luke led the Engineering, Project Management, and Quality functions for the Europe and International business divisions. He was central in supporting the Eurofighter Typhoon and BAE Systems Hawk product lines. Additionally, he chaired design reviews for the F35 aircraft program and directed various product safety and environmental steering groups. Luke also played a crucial role in enhancing relationships with trade unions, representing professional staff.
Before his tenure at BAE Systems, Luke spent 28 years at Rolls-Royce plc, evolving from a technologist in composite materials to the Chief Engineer for the Civil Aerospace sector. Notably, he supported the entry into service of the Trent 900 Engine for the Airbus A380, managing product enhancements that improved operational reliability and increased sales.
As the Divisional Engineering Director for Weir Group’s Power & Industrial Division, Luke led technical teams and participated in several industry advisory groups, demonstrating his commitment to engineering excellence.
Luke chairs the Royal Academy of Engineering Awards Committee and the University of Leicester's School of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board (IAB). His passion for fostering innovation extends to his involvement as an advisory board member for various tech startups and his activities as an angel investor.
Over the last two years, Luke has been active as an independent advisor and consultant, leveraging his executive and technical expertise to enhance strategic development and operational performance for businesses across different sectors. He focuses on assisting businesses with strong engineering and technology foundations, particularly those entering the aerospace and defense sectors.
Luke is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, and The Royal Aeronautical Society. His professional contributions have been recognized with several accolades, including being a runner-up in the RAE’s prestigious McRobert Award and a finalist in the Black British Business Awards.
Outside of work, Luke enjoys spending time with his family, walking his dog, beekeeping, rowing, and learning to DJ.
